Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:6–7 – “These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
Devotional:
This series kicks off with a foundational truth: we are meant to know God's story—and share it. The Old Testament was passed from generation to generation through oral tradition. It wasn’t just information; it was identity. God told His people not only to learn His Word, but to live it, speak it, and center their daily lives around it.
In Deuteronomy, Moses instructs the Israelites to repeat God’s words in every setting—at home, on the road, from sunrise to rest. It wasn’t optional. It was essential. And that command hasn’t changed.
Many Jesus followers today know their own testimonies but struggle to tell God’s story. That’s a problem. Because sharing our faith isn’t just about what Jesus did for me, but what God has done through history.
When we don’t know the story of creation, covenant, freedom, and fulfillment, we cut the gospel off at the roots. We miss the deeper meaning. But when we do know it, we carry something ancient, true, and powerful—able to transform lives.
Questions for Reflection:
Prayer:
God, thank You for the gift of Your Word. Thank You for preserving the story of Your people so I could know it today. Forgive me for the times I’ve neglected Your story or stayed silent when I had the chance to share. Give me wisdom, confidence, and boldness to speak about who You are, what You’ve done, and why it matters. Let my life reflect Your truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Daily Application:
Choose one Old Testament story you’ve forgotten or never understood well (Creation, Exodus, David & Goliath, etc.). Read it this week. Then summarize it in your own words and share it with a friend, child, or spouse. Don’t aim for perfection—aim for faithfulness.
