Scripture Reading:
Matthew 1:20-21 -"But after he had considered these things, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared to him in a dream, saying, 'Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is by the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to name Him Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.'”

Devotional
Throughout Scripture, angels play a critical role in protecting and advancing God’s redemptive plan. Their actions consistently align with God’s ultimate promise—redemption and salvation through Jesus Christ. In Matthew 1:20-21, an angel appears to Joseph, instructing him to take Mary as his wife and protect the unborn Jesus. This moment highlights the urgency and intentionality of divine intervention.
Angels Protecting the Promise
Joseph’s angelic encounter was more than a reassurance. It was a call to action to protect Mary and Jesus, ensuring the fulfillment of God’s promise. Angels were sent multiple times to guide and protect Joseph, emphasizing his critical role as the earthly protector of the Messiah.
This protection extends beyond Joseph and Mary. Angels throughout the Bible are depicted as guardians of God’s covenant people. From leading Israel through the wilderness to shielding prophets from harm, they play a vital role in preserving the lineage and mission of the Messiah.
Our Role in the Redemptive Story
While angels protected the physical life of Jesus, we are entrusted with protecting the spiritual message of Jesus. As followers of Christ, we are called to guard the truth of the Gospel and to live lives that reflect His redemptive power. Just as Joseph’s obedience preserved the promise, our faithfulness can protect the Gospel’s influence in our families, communities, and the world.

Application
 1. Obedience in Protection: Reflect on areas in your life where God is calling you to protect His promise. It could be defending His truth in conversations or nurturing faith in your family.
 2. Trust in Divine Intervention: Trust that God sends help, both seen and unseen, to guide and protect you as you carry out His mission.

Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your constant protection and for sending angels to guide and guard us. Help me to walk in obedience like Joseph, trusting in Your plan and doing my part to protect and proclaim the Gospel. Strengthen my faith as I partner with You in carrying out Your redemptive work. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
