Scripture:
19 When Sanballat , Tobiah , and Geshem heard about this, they mocked and despised us, and said, “What is this you’re doing? Are you rebelling against the king?”
— Nehemiah 2:19
Reflection:
Criticism and skepticism often accompany bold moves for God. As Nehemiah began rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls, opposition arose. The pastor noted that spiritual attacks and external criticism frequently escalate when we step out in faith. These challenges can sow seeds of doubt, but Nehemiah’s unwavering focus on God’s calling kept him moving forward.
Criticism can either deter us or deepen our resolve. When we anchor ourselves in God’s promises, we can face opposition with courage and grace. Nehemiah’s response—pointing back to God’s gracious hand—shows us that faith is the antidote to fear and discouragement.
Application:
Reflect on any criticism or skepticism you’ve faced while pursuing God’s calling. Bring these challenges to God in prayer and ask Him for wisdom and strength to persevere. Consider how you can respond with grace, pointing others back to God’s faithfulness.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being my refuge in the face of criticism and doubt. Help me to stand firm in Your promises and respond with grace to those who oppose me. Strengthen my resolve to follow Your calling, knowing that Your hand is upon me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Questions for Reflection:
1. How have you experienced criticism or opposition when stepping out in faith?
2. How can you remind yourself of God’s faithfulness in the face of doubts and attacks?
