Scripture: Genesis 39:6-7 – "Now Joseph was well-built and handsome. After some time his master’s wife looked longingly at Joseph and said, ‘Sleep with me.’"

Devotional: Joseph had already endured betrayal, slavery, and loss of status. But temptation doesn’t wait for your life to be calm. In fact, it often comes when you least expect it. Scripture tells us Joseph was good-looking—and that detail sets up the conflict. Potiphar’s wife notices him, and temptation comes in blunt, aggressive form.
You don’t always get to choose when or how temptation shows up. But you do choose how you respond.
Joseph didn’t seek out this situation. He was simply doing his job. But lust pursued him anyway. That’s how sexual sin works—it doesn’t wait for an invitation. It knocks down the door. It lurks in the algorithms. It sneaks into your thoughts. It shows up when you’re tired, alone, or unguarded.
If temptation hasn’t come for you yet, it will. And if it has, it will again. That’s why we prepare in advance. We build a habit of obedience before the moment of crisis. Joseph knew who he was and who he served. That’s what gave him the clarity to say no.

Prayer: God, prepare my heart before temptation ever knocks. Build in me a love for You that is greater than my desire to sin. Make me alert and aware of how sin operates, and help me stand firm. In Jesus' name, Amen.
