Scripture:

Genesis 40:4 –

The captain of the guard assigned Joseph to them, and he became their personal attendant…”

2 Corinthians 1:4-5 –

"He comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, so through Christ our comfort also overflows."

Hebrews 12:3 –

For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, so that you won’t grow weary and give up.”

Devotional:

Joseph’s life had drastically changed—but his assignment hadn’t. He wasn’t managing Potiphar’s household anymore, but he was still managing. Still leading. Still interpreting. Still serving.

Potiphar may have thrown him into prison, but he didn’t stop trusting him. Joseph wasn’t stripped of his assignment—he was relocated.

We often confuse purpose with position. A shift in your environment does not cancel your calling.

Don’t let disappointment silence your voice. Don’t let discouragement convince you your gifts don’t matter anymore.

Joseph didn’t wait until he was free to serve. He served while he was still bound. And that’s what opened the next door in his life.

Prayer:

God, help me stop waiting for perfect conditions to be faithful. Remind me that You’ve still given me purpose, even when life feels like a prison. Show me how to serve right where I am and use my gifts to glorify You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Has a change in your circumstances made you feel like your purpose is on pause?
  2. What gifts or callings do you need to start using again?
  3. Who can you serve or encourage today—right where you are?
