Scripture: Psalm 40:1-2 – “I waited patiently for the Lord, and He turned to me and heard my cry for help. He brought me up from a desolate pit.”

Devotional: Waiting is often one of the most difficult seasons we experience. Joseph waited in the pit, uncertain of his fate. Later, he would wait as a slave and as a prisoner. David, the psalmist, waited on God’s deliverance while hiding from his enemies. And we, too, often find ourselves waiting—for healing, for restoration, for purpose, for direction.
Waiting is not a passive state; it is an active dependence on God. In these moments, our trust in God is tested. Do we believe He hears our cries? Do we trust that He is working behind the scenes, even when nothing seems to be changing?
Joseph did not remain in the pit forever. God had a plan to lift him up, but first, Joseph had to learn patience and reliance on God’s timing. Waiting refines our hearts, builds endurance, and strengthens our faith. If we allow it, God will use our waiting seasons to prepare us for what He has in store.

Prayer: Lord, waiting is hard, and I often struggle to trust Your timing. But I know You are faithful. Help me to wait with patience and faith, knowing that You will lift me up in Your perfect time. Strengthen my heart and keep my eyes on You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
