Scripture:
Ephesians 6:10-12 - “Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength. Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil. For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.”
Devotional: The Bible is clear that as followers of Christ, we are engaged in a spiritual battle. Ephesians 6 tells us that we don’t battle against people—“flesh and blood”—but against dark spiritual forces that operate unseen. These “forces of evil” influence our world subtly and covertly, using tactics like division, confusion, and despair. It’s a reality that’s easy to overlook, especially in today’s world, where we often explain things in purely physical or psychological terms.
The apostle Paul’s words remind us that we must prepare ourselves to face this enemy, understanding that he seeks to divide, deceive, and destroy. One of Satan’s main tactics is division—an effective tool that can turn people against each other over politics, beliefs, or ideologies. Even in the church, differences can lead to division, especially when we lose sight of our real enemy and misdirect our focus toward those who disagree with us.
It’s important to remember that our strength in this battle doesn’t come from ourselves but from God. When Paul encourages us to “put on the full armor of God,” he’s pointing us toward the supernatural strength and protection God provides. Facing the enemy on our own leaves us vulnerable, but with God’s strength, we can stand firm.
As you go through today, keep your heart and mind open to this reality of spiritual warfare. Recognize that God’s strength is greater than any power of darkness and that He has equipped you to stand firm in faith, even in the face of opposition.
Take time considering and discussing the following Questions:
1. Have you encountered situations where division or confusion seemed to create unnecessary conflict? Could these be influenced by the enemy?
2. What steps can you take to remember that people are not your enemy but that the battle is spiritual?
3. How can you rely more on God’s strength when facing challenges or temptations?
Application: This week, whenever you encounter a situation that frustrates or challenges you, pause and remind yourself of today’s scripture. Pray for discernment to see the spiritual battle behind the scenes and for God’s strength to respond with wisdom and grace.
Closing Prayer: Lord, thank You for equipping me with Your strength in this spiritual battle. Help me to see beyond flesh and blood and recognize the spiritual forces that seek to divide and discourage me. Remind me that You are greater than any enemy I face. In Your mighty name, Amen.
