Reflection:
Judas’ story serves as a tragic reminder of what happens when we allow sin to grow unchecked in our hearts. But the pastor also points to a powerful truth: repentance has the power to stop sin in its tracks. James 4:7 says, "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." This verse provides a clear path for us to follow when we are tempted—submission to God and resistance to the enemy.
Judas had opportunities to repent. Even at the Last Supper, when Jesus identified him as the betrayer, Judas could have confessed and turned back. But instead, he allowed his sin to carry him further into the darkness. The pastor emphasizes that repentance is the key to stopping the growth of sin. It brings our hidden struggles into the light, and in the light, sin loses its power.
In John 8:12, Jesus declares, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life." Repentance allows us to walk in that light, to experience the freedom and life that Jesus offers. It’s not just about feeling sorry for our sins; it’s about turning away from them and turning toward Jesus.
