Scripture:
Acts 1:10–11 - "They were gazing into heaven, and suddenly two men in white clothes stood by them. They said, 'Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up into heaven? This Jesus… will come in the same way that you have seen Him going into heaven.’”
Devotional:
After the resurrection, the disciples stood frozen, staring at the sky, watching Jesus ascend.
They had just been given their mission: “You will be My witnesses… to the ends of the earth.”
But in the moment, they stood still—looking up—waiting.
And the angels had to step in and say, “Why are you standing here staring?”
In other words:
“Stop looking up. Start living out.”
How many of us are still doing the same thing?
We’re studying prophecy more than we’re sharing the gospel.
We’re tracking end-time events but ignoring the lost people in our lives.
We’re “waiting on Jesus” but neglecting the mission He gave us while we wait.
Jesus never said to predict His return.
He said to prepare for it—by making Him known.
Every generation has believed the end was near—and maybe they were right.
But the timing isn’t the point.
Obedience is. Faithfulness is. Mission is.
If Jesus comes back today, will He find you looking up—or living out?
Prayer:
Lord, I don’t want to live with my head in the clouds. I want to live with my hands in the harvest. Help me not just to believe in Your return—but to be bold in my witness before You do. Give me urgency for the mission and compassion for the people around me. In Your name, Amen.
