Scripture:

Matthew 12:38–40 -"Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Him, 'Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.' But He answered them, 'An evil and adulterous generation demands a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.’"

Devotional:

The religious leaders weren’t satisfied. Despite all Jesus had said and done—miracles, teachings, fulfilled prophecy—they still demanded more.

“Show us a sign,” they said.

Jesus answered plainly: “You’ll get one—the sign of Jonah.”

That sign?

Resurrection. Repentance. Restoration.

Just as Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and then preached repentance, Jesus would be in the tomb three days—and rise to bring salvation to all who repent and believe.

That’s the sign that matters most.

Not a war. Not a headline. Not a blood moon or natural disaster.

The ultimate sign of God's power is the empty tomb.

Jesus didn’t come to impress people with signs—He came to invite them to salvation.

The question isn’t “What signs are left?”

It’s “What are you doing with the sign we’ve already been given?”

Prayer:

God, thank You for the sign of Jonah—for the resurrection of Jesus, which is my hope, my salvation, and the proof of Your love and power. Don’t let me get caught up in lesser signs when You’ve already given me the greatest one. Help me live and share this truth today. Amen.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What have you been waiting to see before fully trusting or following Jesus?
  2. How does the resurrection change how you view “the end times”?
  3. Are you proclaiming the sign of Jonah—resurrection and repentance—to others?
