The third week of the To Boldly Go series challenges us to embrace bold confidence as we step into God’s calling. Building on the themes of burden, request, and sacrifice from previous weeks, this sermon highlighted Nehemiah’s inspection of the broken walls and his preparation to lead God’s people in rebuilding. Nehemiah teaches us the importance of preparation, trusting God’s provision, and persevering through criticism and doubt.
The pastor shared how confidence grows when we combine knowledge with faith. While data and planning can provide valuable insights, faith in God’s promises is the ultimate equalizer.
For us today, bold confidence means stepping out in faith, whether it’s expanding our capacity for growth, addressing doubts, or facing criticism. The message emphasized that God’s provision is greater than any obstacle, and when we add faith to our preparation, “anything is possible.”
This week’s devotional series explores how we can inspect, prepare, and move forward with bold confidence, trusting that the same God who provided for Nehemiah will also provide for us.

Day 1: Inspect Before You Build
Scripture:
11 After I arrived in Jerusalem and had been there three days, 12 I got up at night and took a few men with me. I didn’t tell anyone what my God had laid on my heart to do for Jerusalem. The only animal I took was the one I was riding. 13 I went out at night through the Valley Gate toward the Serpent’s Well and the Dung Gate, and I inspected the walls of Jerusalem that had been broken down and its gates that had been destroyed by fire.— Nehemiah 2:11-3

Reflection:
Before Nehemiah began rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls, he inspected the damage in silence. He didn’t rush to share his plans or take immediate action. Instead, he carefully observed, assessed, and sought God’s wisdom for the task ahead. The pastor highlighted the balance between impulsivity and meticulous planning. Acting without thought can lead to failure, while overanalyzing can foster doubt and delay.
Nehemiah’s quiet inspection teaches us the value of preparation. Whether we’re considering a career change, starting a family, or making a financial decision, taking time to inspect our circumstances allows us to act with clarity and confidence. However, as the pastor reminded us, even thorough preparation is not enough. Our faith in God’s provision is the foundation for moving forward despite risks and challenges.

Application:
Identify an area of your life where you feel called to act but need more clarity. Spend time inspecting the situation—gathering information, seeking wise counsel, and praying for God’s direction. Write down any fears or doubts and bring them before God in prayer.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the wisdom You provide when we seek You. Teach me to pause, inspect, and prepare before acting. Help me to trust that You will guide me as I take the next step, even when I face uncertainty. Strengthen my faith as I look to You for direction. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
