Scripture Reading:
Mark 16:15- "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation."
Devotional
The connection between angels and apostles lies in their shared mission: delivering the Good News of Jesus Christ. Just as angels were sent to announce the arrival of the Messiah, apostles were commissioned to spread His message of salvation to all people. This continuity of purpose highlights how deeply God values sharing His love and truth with the world.
The Role of Angels
Angels, as "angelos" (messengers), delivered divine messages at pivotal moments in God’s redemptive plan. Their words carried authority and brought clarity about God’s purposes. Consider Gabriel’s announcement to Mary or the angelic choir proclaiming Jesus' birth to the shepherds. Each angelic encounter was purposeful, pointing directly to God’s plan of salvation through Christ.
The Role of Apostles
Similarly, "apostolos" (apostle) means "one who is sent." Apostles like Peter, Paul, and John carried forward the message announced by the angels. But they didn’t act alone. The Holy Spirit empowered them to preach boldly, perform miracles, and guide the early Church in fulfilling its mission. Their message extended the angels’ proclamation, transforming hearts and lives by pointing people to Jesus’ death, resurrection, and promise of eternal life.
Our Shared Mission
Today, we inherit the apostolic mission. While we may not have been eyewitnesses to Jesus' ministry, His commission to "go into all the world" applies to every believer. By sharing the Gospel with our words, actions, and lives, we continue the work started by angels and apostles alike. Through the Holy Spirit, we are empowered to reach others with the same joy and urgency.
This calling isn’t just about preaching from a pulpit or traveling to distant lands. It's about living intentionally, engaging in everyday opportunities to share God’s love. Whether by offering a kind word, extending forgiveness, or explaining the hope we have in Christ, we are fulfilling our role as messengers of the Gospel.
Application
1. Live as a Messenger
Understand that you are "sent" by Jesus. Look for opportunities to share His love and truth with others, whether in big moments or small acts of kindness.
2. Empower Others
Just as Jesus empowered His disciples, encourage fellow believers to embrace their role as messengers. Together, we can amplify the Good News in a world that desperately needs hope.
3. Depend on the Holy Spirit
Remember that you are not alone in this mission. Pray for the Spirit’s guidance, boldness, and wisdom as you share the Gospel.
Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You for inviting me to participate in Your mission to share the Good News. Empower me with courage, humility, and wisdom as I carry Your message of hope and salvation to others. Teach me to live as a faithful ambassador of Your love, and help me to encourage others to do the same. In Jesus' name, Amen.
