Scripture:
Genesis 39:12
"She grabbed him by his garment and said, ‘Sleep with me!’ But leaving his garment in her hand, he escaped and ran outside."
Devotional:
Once again, Joseph loses his robe. But this time, it’s not out of arrogance or family jealousy—it’s because he did the right thing. He resisted temptation. He honored God. And he still got accused. Still got thrown in prison.
It’s one of the hardest realities of following God: sometimes obedience still costs you something. Sometimes doing the right thing leads to suffering—not success.
Joseph’s slave garment was plain and unremarkable. A symbol of ownership. But when he fled from sin, that very garment became “evidence” used to frame him.
Maybe you know what it’s like to be misunderstood. To be judged by something someone said or assumed about you. Maybe you’ve done the right thing and still ended up suffering.
Here’s what Joseph shows us: Your integrity may not protect you from being stripped—but it will protect your future.
God sees. God knows. And God honors faithfulness.
Prayer:
God, I admit it’s hard to stay faithful when it feels like it doesn’t pay off. Help me trust You even when I’m misunderstood. Help me stay obedient even when the consequences hurt. Clothe me in integrity and courage. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
