Scripture:

"When I heard these words, I sat down and wept. I mourned for a number of days, fasting and praying before the God of heaven." — Nehemiah 1:4

Reflection:

Nehemiah didn’t just pray—he fasted. He understood that fasting was a way to focus his heart and mind on God’s power, rather than his own abilities.

Fasting is an act of dependence on God. It says:

  • “God, I need You more than I need food, entertainment, or distractions.”
  • “I am willing to give up something in order to seek You more deeply.”

Fasting is not about earning God’s favor—it is about making space for Him to move.

As our church steps into a week of bold prayer and fasting, we have the opportunity to seek God with greater intensity. Whether you fast from food, social media, or another daily habit, let every moment of longing redirect you to prayer.

Application:

  • Choose one thing to fast from this week.
  • Whenever you feel the urge for that thing, use the moment to pray.
  • Ask God to move powerfully in your life and in the church.

Prayer:

Father, as I step into this time of fasting, I ask that You help me to draw closer to You. Let this be a time of spiritual renewal, focus, and deeper trust in Your plans. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Questions for Reflection:

  1. What is one thing you can fast from this week?
  2. How can fasting help you grow spiritually?
  3. What do you want to see God do through this time of prayer and fasting?

Bold prayers lead to bold steps—let’s seek God together!
