Scripture:
John 14:5-6 - "Lord,” Thomas said, “we don’t know where You’re going. How can we know the way?” Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
Devotional:
In this passage, we see Thomas wrestling with confusion and uncertainty, just as we often do. Jesus had been talking about His departure—His journey to the Father—and Thomas, practical and honest, spoke up: “We don’t know where You’re going. How can we know the way?” This question reveals a lot about Thomas’s heart. He wasn’t afraid to ask for clarity, to voice his concerns.
Many of us feel the same way Thomas did. Life is filled with uncertainties, and sometimes it feels like we don’t know the way forward. We may question God’s plans and wonder how we’re supposed to follow Him when we can’t see the road ahead clearly.
Jesus’s response to Thomas is profound: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Jesus didn’t give Thomas detailed instructions or a roadmap. Instead, He offered Himself as the answer. When we’re uncertain about the future, when doubt clouds our faith, we don’t need to know every step. We just need to know Jesus. He is the way.
Walking by faith means trusting that Jesus will guide us, even when we can’t see what’s coming. He knows where He’s leading us, and that’s enough. Like Thomas, we must learn to trust that knowing Jesus is enough to carry us through any uncertainty.
Reflection Questions:
What uncertainties are you currently facing in your life?
How does Jesus’s declaration, “I am the way, the truth, and the life,” impact your approach to those uncertainties?
How can you practice walking by faith, even when you don’t have all the answers?
Application:
Identify one area of uncertainty in your life where you feel doubt or confusion. Take time to surrender this uncertainty to Jesus, trusting Him to lead you. Write down a prayer of faith, declaring your trust in Jesus as “the way” and asking for His guidance as you move forward.
Closing Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for being the way, the truth, and the life. When I face uncertainty, help me to trust in You. I don’t need to know every detail; I just need to know You. Guide my steps and strengthen my faith as I walk with You. In Your name, Amen.
