Living in the Reality that God Reigns

Reflection:
A recurring theme in Book 4 of the Psalms is the proclamation that "The Lord reigns." Psalm 93 declares, "The Lord reigns! He is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed, enveloped in strength. The world is firmly established; it cannot be shaken" (Psalm 93:1). This theme is echoed in Psalms 96, 97, and 99, reminding us that God's reign is a foundational truth that brings stability and assurance.

In Psalm 96, we are called to "Say among the nations: 'The Lord reigns.' The world is firmly established; it cannot be shaken. He judges the peoples fairly" (Psalm 96:10). This proclamation invites us to declare God's sovereignty to the world, reassuring us that no matter what happens, God's reign remains unshaken.

Psalm 97 begins with, "The Lord reigns! Let the earth rejoice; let the many coasts and islands be glad" (Psalm 97:1). This joy and gladness come from recognizing that God's rule brings righteousness and justice.

Finally, Psalm 99 reinforces this truth: "The Lord reigns! Let the peoples tremble. He is enthroned above the cherubim; let the earth quake" (Psalm 99:1). God's reign evokes both reverence and awe, highlighting His majesty and power.
