Scripture Reading:
Luke 1:29-30 -"But she was deeply troubled by this statement, wondering what kind of greeting this could be. Then the angel told her: ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.’”

Devotional
Fear is a natural reaction to the unknown. Mary, upon hearing Gabriel’s greeting, was “deeply troubled” and likely overwhelmed by the angel’s sudden appearance. She wasn’t just startled by the encounter but by the magnitude of the message that followed: she had been chosen to carry the Son of God. Despite her initial fear, the angel’s assurance—that she had found favor with God—helped her move from anxiety to acceptance.

Fear of the Unknown vs. Faith in God’s Plan
Mary faced significant fears: the social repercussions of being an unmarried, pregnant woman in her culture, potential rejection by her fiancé Joseph, and the immense responsibility of raising the Messiah. Yet, in the midst of these fears, God reminded her of His favor. Gabriel’s words, “Do not be afraid,” weren’t just comforting—they were empowering.
God’s favor doesn’t eliminate challenges; it gives us the strength to face them. Mary’s story reminds us that God’s plans often stretch us beyond our comfort zones, but His favor equips us to trust Him in the process.

Favor That Strengthens Faith
Mary’s ultimate response, “Let it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38), demonstrates a shift from fear to faith. This shift wasn’t immediate but came as she trusted the God who called her. Her experience reminds us that God’s favor is not just about what He gives but about how He enables us to fulfill His purpose in our lives.

Application
 1. Combat Fear with Faith: When faced with fear or uncertainty, remind yourself of God’s favor and His faithfulness in the past.
 2. Rest in God’s Promises: Trust that God’s favor in your life comes with His provision and strength to carry you through any challenge.

Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You for the assurance of Your favor in my life. Help me to trust You in the midst of fear and uncertainty, knowing that Your plans are good. Strengthen my faith so that I can respond to Your call with courage and obedience. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
