Scripture: Acts 28:1-6 - Once ashore, we then learned that the island was called Malta. 2 The local people showed us extraordinary kindness, for they lit a fire and took us all in, since it was raining and cold. 3 As Paul gathered a bundle of brushwood and put it on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat and fastened itself to his hand. 4 When the local people saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “This man is probably a murderer, and though he has escaped the sea, Justice does not allow him to live!” 5 However, he shook the creature off into the fire and suffered no harm. 6 They expected that he would swell up or suddenly drop dead.
Sermon Quote:
"WHEN THE SNAKES OF NEGATIVITY ATTACK WE HAVE TO SHAKE IT OFF AND MOVE FORWARD IN THE TRUTH."
Devotional:
After surviving storms and shipwrecks, we often find ourselves vulnerable to snake bites of negativity—internal and external attacks that aim to discourage, discredit, or destroy. In Acts 28, Paul faced a literal snake bite, yet he shook it off without harm. Similarly, when negativity strikes, whether in the form of lies, judgments, or self-condemnation, we must learn to shake it off and cling to the truth of God's Word. The enemy seeks to attack us when we are weak, but God's truth can counteract the venom of negativity. As you face the snakes of life, hold onto God's promises and reject the lies that threaten to poison your spirit.
Reflection Questions:
Have you experienced negativity or attacks recently, either from yourself, others, or the enemy?
How have you responded to these snake bites? Have you shaken them off, or have they begun to affect your mindset and emotions?
What truths from God's Word can you hold onto to counteract the venom of negativity?
Prayer:
Lord, when negativity strikes, help me shake it off and cling to Your truth. Strengthen me against the attacks of the enemy, and let Your Word be a shield against the lies that threaten to poison my spirit. Amen.
