Scripture:
John 1:26-27 - "John answered them, 'I baptize with water, but among you stands one you do not know. He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.'"

Devotional:
John the Baptist holds a unique position in the story of Jesus. Though not one of the Twelve Disciples, John played a pivotal role in preparing the way for Jesus’ ministry. His life and message were all about pointing people to Jesus, the Messiah, and calling them to repentance. John was clear about his role. He knew he wasn't the Messiah; rather, he was the voice crying out in the wilderness, preparing the way for the Lord (Isaiah 40:3). His humility and dedication to his purpose are a model for all believers.

John’s life is a powerful reminder that God calls each of us to a specific role in His plan. We may not all be called to be prominent leaders, but we are all called to be like John—to prepare the way for others to meet Jesus. This preparation starts with our own hearts. We must recognize our need for repentance and be willing to turn from our sins to follow Christ wholeheartedly. Only then can we effectively point others to Him.

Reflection Questions:
    1. In what ways can you, like John the Baptist, prepare the way for others to meet Jesus?
    2. How does John’s humility challenge your approach to serving God?
    3. What areas in your life need repentance and realignment with God’s will?

Application: Take time today to reflect on the role God has called you to in His kingdom. Ask Him to reveal any areas in your life where you need to repent and turn back to Him. Consider how you can actively point others to Jesus through your actions and words, just as John did.

Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of John the Baptist. Help me to be humble in my service to You, always pointing others to Jesus. Reveal any areas in my life that need repentance, and give me the courage to turn from sin and follow You wholeheartedly. Guide me as I prepare the way for others to know You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
